Hi, I'm a Garden Designer, Landscape Architect, Mom of two terrific teens & beginning birder.
I worked in a family plant nursery where I began designing gardens in my teens. I have a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Florida.
I’ve worked in professional design firms which focused in master planning, golf, residential design and even got a dab of urban parks in Boston. I established The Elegant Garden in North Florida in 1993.
I studied gardens and outdoor spaces in Europe. I got to sketch famous gardens, villas and city squares.
When I consult, sometimes I sketch a plan right then. Sometimes I take it home or return. It all depends...on the “People, Plants & Place”.
An on site consultation with a drawing takes about 2-4 hours. Take home plans a little more. Every yard and client are different. I like to match the client’s dreams with thought out design.
I design bird gardens because they bring so much joy to the owners. It is healing to look outside and see life and birds in your landscape.
Bird Gardens are therapeutic for the people and the planet. Adding native plants to your yard attracts more birds because the come to eat the native plants…or the insects that they draw.
Natives are lower in maintenance because, they’ve already been thriving in nature for 500 years. Just match the right plant to your soil, light conditions, form and function. Using native plants lowers care, chemicals and brings in 35 times more birds.
Native plants draw in pollinators, butterflies and birds so you can watch them. Everyday, you have a hundred tiny nature sightings. Create a small patch of habitat whether formal or informal. It will change how you feel about your yard, and maybe even nature in general.
Native plants are harder to find. That’s why I created the “Landscape Concierge” Service. I work with specialty trade-only growers and expert contractors. I test plants in my own Elegant Garden and share that localized information with my clients…and followers on my social media (Instagram, Facebook & Pinterest…).
In Florida we can grow so many edible perennials . Edible shrubs, trees and ground covers can be layered into any existing yard to create what I call a “Super Garden”. It does not need to be a hippy farm, a chaotic jungle or an overgrown food forest. You can create a design using any style -from traditional English to sub-tropical modern. It’s all in the planting design. So, look good, taste good and fit into the HOA! Visit the Super You Gardens Page.
